Crystal opens to cold powder – the season begin!

One big cold storm and Washington moves from warm and wet to powder time. Crystal was f-f-freezing but then the snow was blower. The patrol even opened old cranky Campbell lift at 3pm for Powder Bowl, that was nice, as in over the head spray nice.

Metallica – Still on Top

So they came & they rocked. Great show, great stage – pyro like it was 1975, lasers like it was 1985. And check out the coffin light rigs in the ceiling. And the finale, hundreds of big black Metallica balls dropped into the crowd. They riffed for 2 and half hours, after 2 support bands – 10/10 for effort.

Hey what’s that sound?

Adam took his black belt test. Lots of sweat.

Saw Lucinda Williams down at the Showbox. Great music, warm audience in one Seattle’s best venues.

Hilary is now a US Citizen

Some of us think the timing was related to the Election result!

A new President, a new Era

It played out the way the polls predicted, but was still a great moment. McCain was gracious and honorable in defeat. Now Obama has the mandate. How faded in memory Bush already feels.

Icicle Creek Fall Climbing

Great weather, colors & dry rock. 4 guys camping out on the riverside. The ranger came and locked up the campground for the season as we drove away. In a month it will be under snow. Hey, its time to get the wax out once again > will this be the 3rd great winter in a row?

Rosario, Orcas Is. “LibraFest”

The last trip to Rosario until it reopens rebuilt by new owners in a few years. We biked the trails, spotted the wildlife (happy otters), ran around lakes, walked the low tide shore and plied the pool and sauna. It was quiet on the water and silent on the trails.

Rosario Photos here (if View Full Album link does not work for you).

Along with the clear but cool weather, there was a feeling of having to move on: the local boaters having to move home, the several hundred resort staff with just a week’s work left. Even Moran State Park has to find new ways to entice volunteers, with the resort’s bargain rate for a day’s park labor going away. We wish Gary the harbormaster well as his marina closes next week, along with his current home afloat.

And Happy Birthday to The Libras: Michelle, Zac and Adam.
